Things you did not know about BLAUWGEEL #2

As we mentioned yesterday, we did everything for this record ourselves. During the weekends we repurposed the main hall of a steel company, to set up our gear so we could record. We had a pretty good set up too, but there was no way we could record more than one instrument at a time. This is not a problem per se, but did provide us with more than a few challenges. The main one being that we also couldn’t provide Vincent with a backing track. That meant he had to record all his give or take 45 minutes of drumming without hearing any of the actual music. It’s hard to stress how insane that is.

To up the ante, we were also on a strict deadline: we only had two weekends to record all his parts. After that, Vincent would be out of the country for most of the summer. If we didn’t get all his parts, it meant we basically couldn’t do anything for a couple of months.

Luckily for us, when Vincent gets behind his kit he is a machine. So we got everything we needed and were happy as Larry. Until, that is, Wouter started recording his bass parts and just couldn’t make sense of the recording for “Some Speak of the Future, Others of the Past”. Turns out, there was a fill of four whole bars missing!

If memory serves it took Joene about a full day to edit the fill together from other parts of the song. We still taunt Vincent about it of course, altough to be honest we’re quite impressed this was the only mistake he made.

Things we love about BLAUWGEEL #2

Altough we had to overcome some major hurdles (as described above), the fact that we did everything ourselves (writing, recording, mixing, artwork, visuals, everything) is definitely still something we love about this record. We put in a lot of hard work to make something that is completely ours.

And now for the best part:
